Diabetes is the leading causes of preventable blindness in the United States among adults age 20 to 74 and is the fifth most common cause of preventable blindness globally. Among the 30 million Americans with diabetes, about one-third have diabetic retinopathy, the potentially blinding complication of diabetes.

Here are the ABC’s of taking care of your eyes

A- A1C make sure to have your A1C checked every 6 months.

B- Blood Pressure managing your blood pressure can help protect your heart, kidneys and eyes.

C- Cholesterol learning to manage this can help with diabetic retinopathy.

D- Don’t smoke or if you do smoke plan to quit.

E- Eyes Please get your eyes examined regularly.
